Angelo CarterListen to a sample of a song produced by Angelo Carter in a WAV(windows)Ucan'tkeeprunning.wav or an MP3 file Ucan'tkeeprunning.mp3 Handpicked with R. Kelley to collaborate on a project for Alma Urban Records in 1988 while still a teenager, Angelo Carter began his professional recording, songwriting, and production career. This was a natural transition for Carter, who had been playing (guitar, trumpet, and drums) in bands and writing music since childhood. Within a year, Carter partnered with lyricist Anthony Mitchell to form production and publishing companies; Why Me Productions and Drop a Load Tunes. Star City Records signed several artists Carter and Mitchell produced. Why Me Productions, gaining notoriety and admiration within the industry, was brought on to produce artists for the label, Washington Hit Makers. Here, Carter produced NaJokie and Rick Webb. These collaborations turned out brilliant work, resulting in Billboard charting. Rick Webb’s album was a phenomenon in the UK, soaring to #3 on the British charts. Throughout the 1990’s, Carter and Why Me Productions were in great demand, called upon to work with artists such as R. Kelley, TomTom 84, David Holister, and The Phoenix Horns. All while doing so, Carter continued writing his own music, including original scores for the advertising industry. Carter
and Mitchell chose to dissolve their partnership in 2000 as the two
talented men began to move in different directions. Carter immediately
set to work on an industrial video (Habitat for Humanity) for Johnson
and Higgins (now, MARSH, USA). Carter’s latest project is with
his daughter Tiffany, who inherited her father’s exceptional
talent. A new publishing and production company are next on Carter’s “to
do” list, along with a new relationship with a record label
and music distributor. |
