Haroon
Azzaam Raja'ee was born in Chicago, Illinois, grew-up in his early
teens in the Nation of Islam (Under the leadership of the Honorable
Elijah Mohammed) where he studied photojournalism, creative portraiture
and documentary photography under the Instructions of Hasan Mohammed
Sharif, Eldest Grandson of the Honorable Elijah Mohammed (Historical
Leader of the Nation of Islam), and nephew of Imam Warithuddin Mohammed
(Imam W.D. Mohammed) Muslim American Spokesman for human salvation..
From Hasan Mohammed Sharif Haroon developed the aesthetic, moral
aspect, sophisticated presentation, and the photographic mind of
this great craft. He is a self taught artist, and graphic designer
who attended Simeon Vocation and Sister Clara Mohammed High (Formerly
the University of Islam under the Hon. Elijah Mohammed), Columbia
College in Chicago, and the Metropolitan School of Tailoring. He
have an immense love for creating images with natural light. "The
light of the Creator shows the real subject when you're doing portraits" -
states Haroon. As far as Art and the responsibility as visual Artist
- "we must develop "Image Control." Our people can
easily be manipulated because we collectively don't control or refuse
to control destructive images that come into our conscience and our
community."
In 1979 he established a sole proprietorship in photography called
Photography by Raja'ee. In 1980 Haroon established New World International
Art Group with the business collaboration of Jorge Melindez (Artist)
and Alicia Rodriguez (Model / Secretary). In 1991 with the collaboration
of fellow photographer Robert Thornton III they established Creative
Two Photography. In 1992 he re-established a sole proprietorship called
Raja'ee Photography.
